In full romanticism (19th century), Lake Como became a compulsory stop on the Grand Tour, the formative journey undertaken by the European aristocracy to admire classical art and beauty. And it was a source of inspiration for poets, artists and writers, from Goethe to Flaubert. When we talk instead of villas and gardens that have become tourist destinations par excellence, visited by thousands of tourists every year, then we must mention the superb Villa del Balbianello, set of many films, one above all is the wedding ceremony in Star Wars; Villa Carlotta with an impressive garden of azaleas; Villa Melzi d’Eril in Bellagio, are a harmonious example of the English-style garden; always in Bellagio, the gardens of Villa Serbelloni, seat of the Rockfeller Foundation in Italy; Villa Monastero with its botanical garden.
The most beautiful properties, the ones not to miss, are located in the central park of Lake Como, in the area of Bellagio, the pearl of the Lake.
Some of them have been transformed into beautiful hotels such as Grand Hotel Villa d’Este with its astonishing Italian garden or Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio, Grand Hotel Tremezzo in the Tremezzina or Grand Hotel Victoria in Menaggio.
Are you ready to admire and visit the beautiful villas by sailing the placid waters of the lake abord a motorboard or even a public boat?

For golfing, unless to travel southwards to Como (40-minute drive), in our proposal we include the wonderful Menaggio Golf Club. A quite hilly course, cut in the mountain, offering a unique panoramic view over the lake (golf cart is suggested!)
The story says that it was in 1907 that a certain Mr. Wyatt, son and heir of a wealthy British subject, came as a tourist to the hills above Grandola and Uniti. He fell in love with the place and settled there with his wife. A perfect English gentleman cannot survive without his game of golf and Mr. Wyatt was no exception. He organized a makeshift 9-hole course which soon became a favourite meeting place for golf-lovers in the area. In the fifties the Golf Club was handed over to Italians.
Mention should be made of the golfing library, second only to S. Andrew's.

One of Italy’s largest regions, Lombardy lies in the north of the country, sharing a border with Switzerland.
Stretching from the Alps to the lowlands of the Po Valley, it is home to a wide range of landscapes, including the breathtaking mountain chain that boasts the Valchiavenna, Valtellina and the Camonica Valley.
Winter sports enthusiasts will find no lack of state-of-the-art facilities in Lombardy, for example in the extremely popular resorts of Tonale, Bormio, Livigno and Madesimo.
Another aspect that defines the region is its expanse of rolling hills that encompass the distinctive Franciacorta area, famous for its vineyards and wine production. The charm of the great lakes is a great tourist draw, attracting visitors to Sirmione and other well known destinations dotting the western coast of Lake Garda, while Lake Como and Lake Maggiore are no less beautiful, surrounded as they are by stately homes, parks and picturesque small towns.
The region is also characterized by the great flat tracts of the Po Valley lowlands, covered by shimmering mirrors of water and rice paddies: this is the typical landscape of Lomellina, the land of rice harvesters, steeped in tradition.
The region has countless other distinctive facets. Lombardy, aided by its geographic position and fertile soil, will captivate you - nature, history, art and culture marry in harmony with innovation, technology, fashion, entertainment, and a contemporary outlook.
The region comprises the provinces of Bergamo, Brescia, Como, Cremona, Lecco, Lodi, Mantua, Milan (regional capital), Monza and Brianza, Pavia, Sondrio and Varese.
COMO
Along the western side of Lake Como, between Como and Bellagio, lies a journey of discovery of the Sacro Monte of Ossuccio on the Island of Comacina, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This area is a cluster of old Medieval towns, 18th-Century villas and mountainous nature trails.
The territory of Como is rather varied, with the aforementioned mountainous areas, lakes and valleys. The City of Como lies at the base of Mount Brunate and is surrounded by hills and the Alpine foothills that watch over the southern part of Lake Como.
Beginning with Como, at the furthest point of the western arm of the lake, one encounters beautiful communities one after the other, tucked away in the mountains that lie alongside the calm waters.
All the lakeside towns are perfect vacation spots year-round. They are accessbile reached by boat, funicualr or car, via little roads with splendid views of nature unspoiled. Everywhere in Como, homage is paid to native Alessandro Volta, the celebrated inventor of the battery.
